Reporting to the IT Director, the Senior Manager of IT Operations is a proven people leader and has a demonstrated ability to guide teams to continuous improvement and success. He or she is driven by stability and availability, while empowering our agile development teams into increasingly run their (autonomous) products at scale.


The Responsibilities

  • Leading a group of fast growing teams of engineers in the cloud, system, IT infrastructure and IT support domains in The Netherlands and Germany.
  • Leading strategic, technical, capacity and operational planning, design and development that improves the stability, scalability, availability and reduces latencies of the Takeaways European IT Platform and IT infrastructures.
  • Ensuring that Takeaways services run reliable, resilient and continuous while keeping an ever-watchful eye on capacity and performance.
  • Leading the issue and problem management processes in ownership, effective resolution and internal communications, as well as automation to prevent them from happening again.
  • Steer towards new concepts and carry them in to the teams, like Site Reliable Engineering in order to increasingly develop and automate self-service systems and processes for our engineering teams to effectively deploy their software into production.
  • Recruiting process to ensure we are finding and hiring outstanding engineers as fast as our organisation is growing.
  • Managing incidents elegantly, driving fast resolution, as well as follow-through on post-mortem and remediations.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with the comprehensive technical platform of Takeaway adhering to all policy, compliance and (security)standards.
  • Communicating effectively and appropriately, practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.

Your Profile

  • Servant leader, proactive communicator and solutions seeker, comfortable with adapting to changing requirements.
  • Leading experience in managing engineering teams in high traffic online (B2C) platforms.
  • Persistent desire to innovate, automate, and continuous improvement.
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership, pragmatism and drive.
  • Eye for detail, security, stability, availability and resiliency.

Your Expertise

  • Strong experience with building, operating and maintaining complex systems at scale.
  • Experience with container management and microservice architectures.
  • Strong familiarity with Linux, virtualization, load balancing and distributed database technologies as well as (AWS) cloud services.
  • Basic knowledge with eagerness to learn more in areas like: PHP/Java, Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos/Marathon, Puppet, AWS, VMware, Apache, Kafka streams, MySQL HAproxy, Instana, Zabbix, Jira, Gitlab and Asternic VoIP.
  • Awareness and insight into industry trends (technology, methods, and tooling).
  • Fluent in the English language both spoken and written.
